Arranging a burial at Woodgrange Park Cemetery

The death of someone close to you can be a very difficult and stressful time. People often come in to the Cemetery or telephone us because they are confused about what they need to do if they want to bury a loved one at Woodgrange Park Cemetery, and so the points below are intended to make the process as clear as possible. 

The first thing you need to know is that we have burial spaces available at Woodgrange Park Cemetery and can usually carry out burials at short notice, e.g. same day (as long as we are notified before 12 noon) or following day.  To book a burial at Woodgrange Park Cemetery you will need to complete all of the points given below:

1. You will normally need to contact a Funeral Director so that arrangements can be made to carry out all religious and practical measures needed.  Many mosques have Funeral Directors linked with them. The Funeral Director will then liaise with Woodgrange Park Cemetery regarding a date and time of burial.
2. You will need to obtain a 'Certificate for Burial or Cremation' (known as a Green Form) or a 'Coroners Order for Burial' (known as a White Form) depending on the circumstances of the person's death.  If the deceased is child who was still-born (born dead after 24 weeks or more of pregnancy), then you will need a 'Certificate for Burial or Cremation (Still-Birth) Form'.*  To get one of these forms you need to register the person's death which will normally be done at the Register Office in the sub-district where the person has died (this can be done at your local Register Office but it can mean that you wait longer for the Certificate to be issued).  Your Funeral Director will advise you on what documentation you need to take with you to the Register Office. We cannot carry out a burial in Woodgrange Park Cemetery without the necessary Certificate, which gives us lawful authority to undertake the burial. 
3. You will need to arrange for our Order for Interment to be completed by the person who will hold the deed of right of burial to the grave space you are purchasing.  The holder of the deed of right of burial is the person who will be responsible for the grave and only they can give permission for a memorial or grave surround to be put on the space. For this reason, it is important that a suitable person registers as the holder of the deed of right of burial (particularly as we cannot change their details for at least one year following the burial).
4. You will need to make payment for the grave space and burial.  This is normally done through the Funeral Director but sometimes we can agree for the family to pay us direct. Please ask your Funeral Director   

* A baby that is still-born before 24 weeks of pregnancy is treated as a non-viable foetus - you will be given a form by a doctor or midwife recording the details of the non-viable foetus but you do not need to register the death with the Registrar
