• Booking a burial

  • The death of someone close to you can be a very difficult and stressful time, so we have put together a 'step-by-step' guide of what you will need to do if you want to book a burial at Woodgrange Park Cemetery.

The first point to make clear is that we have graves spaces available at the Cemetery, and we are normally able to carry out same-day or next-day burials for those who require this due to religious reasons.  This is, of course, subject to us having all the required steps in place (see below) and allowing enough time for us to dig and prepare the grave (normally by 11.00 a.m. Monday to Friday for an afternoon burial and by 10.00 a.m. on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday - when an additional out-of-hours charge will be made - see fees and charges). There will be occasions where we are unable to accommodate a same-day burial, but we will do our best to get the burial scheduled as quickly as possible.

If you want to arrange the burial of a loved-one at Woodgrange Park Cemetery, you will need to:

  • Step 1

Contact a Funeral Director who will support the family/friends of the deceased with regard to the funeral arrangements. On a practical level, the Funeral Director will normally arrange transportation of the deceased, prepare the deceased for burial, advise the family on legal requirements/documents and liaise with Woodgrange Park Cemetery about the date and time of burial. You can use whichever Funeral Director you choose, and many are linked with local Mosques.

You will need a Funeral Director - they will liaise with Woodgrange Park Cemetery and advise you on all requirements

  • Step 2

Obtain the 'Certificate for Burial or Cremation' (green form) from the Registrar of Deaths - normally at the Register Office in the area where the person has died but it can also take place at your local Register Office (however, this may delay issue of the Certificate).  If the death has been referred to the Coroner, you will need to wait for them to give permission before you can register the death. To get the Certificate (green form) you will need a medical certificate of cause of death (normally produced by the GP or hospital doctor) and other documentation - your Funeral Director and/or the Registrar can advise you on what is required). If the burial is for a still-born baby of less than 24 weeks gestation then this is considered as a non-viable fetus and no Certificate is required. If the burial is for a still-born baby of more than 24 weeks gestation then you will need to register the death and obtain a Certificate for Burial or Cremation. Once you have the Certificate (or Coroners Order for Burial for certain deaths) this should be sent to you Funeral Director and forwarded to Woodgrange Park Cemetery by email: admin@wgpc.co.uk

You need to obtain the 'Certificate for Burial or Cremation' (green form) or the 'Coroners Order for Burial' and arrange for it to be emailed to Woodgrange Park Cemetery.  Our email address is: admin@wgpc.co.uk

  • Step 3

Complete Woodgrange Park Cemetery's Burial Order Form (we prefer you to do this online but you can email us to request a hardcopy of the form if necessary).  This form tells us about the deceased and gives us details of the person who will be the 'Right of Burial Holder' (the person who will be responsible for the grave for the duration of the deed - normally for 50 years but can be longer). The form needs to be completed and signed by the Right of Burial Holder. Please note: all documents, including the Deed of Right of Burial (document showing who holds the rights to the grave), payment receipt etc will be issued in this name and this cannot be changed within 12 months of the date of burial. The Right of Burial Holder will also be asked to confirm that they have read and accepted Woodgrange Park Cemetery's Regulations.

Complete Woodgrange Park Cemetery's Burial Order Form, including reading and accepting our Cemetery Regulations

  • Step 4

Make payment for the burial.  this would normally be included within the Funeral Director's fees (they charge you and then they pay us). In some cases, the family will pay us direct, but this will need to be agreed with us in advance.  In this case, you will need to make a bank transfer to us using the following details:

    Natwest Bank
Account Name: Woodgrange Park Cemetery Ltd
    Account Number: 14802457
    Sort Code: 60-18-01
Please use the name of the deceased as the reference

Please note:  if the burial is for a still-born baby of more than 24 weeks gestation or for a child of up to the age of 18, Woodgrange Park Cemetery can apply for funding from the Children's Funeral Fund for England to cover the cost of the burial. If the still-born child was less than 24 weeks gestation, then unfortunately no funding is available. We will review the 'Certificate for Burial or Cremation' (green form) and confirm whether the burial meets the criteria for funding.

Normally your Funeral Director will pay our fees and include our charges within their invoice to you.  Agreement is required from Woodgrange Park Cemetery to pay us direct.

Where the burial is for a still-born child of more than 24 weeks gestation or a child up to the age of 18, funding can normally be obtained from the Children's Funeral Fund for England.  Woodgrange Park Cemetery will confirm when this applies on completion of steps 1 -3

  • Our core hours for burials are Monday to Friday, 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. (the burial would need to start by 3.00 pm). Burials that take place outside of these days/times (including on bank holidays) will in incur an additional charge - please see our 'fees and charges' page for further details.
